Alumni Brunch and Birding Adventure
Date: May 20, 2012 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Come join fellow alumni at the picturesque 360-acre ranch of alumni, Heather Bernikoff ('93) and David Raboy ('94). As a guest for the morning, you will be treated to an outdoor experience, featuring an early birding walk around local trails, led by Matt Johnson (HSU Wildlife Chair and birding expert), followed by a light “Los Bagels” themed brunch, and brief presentation by Heather and Matt.

Michael Kew – Alumni Profile
Michael Kew (’98) might have failed his first journalism class in community college. But he didn’t let that deter him from pursuing his passion—writing. Instead, he transferred to Humboldt State, where he edited two student publications and majored in journalism, with a minor in creative writing. Over the past decade, Kew has become a prolific journalist and photographer, travelling to such far-flung locations as Scandinavia and Micronesia to write about his other passion—surfing.

Chad Miller - Alumni Profile
Chad Miller (’03, Natural Resources Planning and Interpretation) was recently accepted to the Navy Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, Calif. His focus? Learning how to detect where terrorists are gathering materials to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in order to stop the bombs from being made in the first place.

Jeff Johnson - Alumni Profile
Jeff Johnson’s (’83) foray into editorial cartooning began with a chalkboard outside the science department stockroom. On work breaks, he would fill the board with caricatures of Humboldt professors.
